No, you must be within the posted performer age range for the show at the time of the audition. We understand that you may look older or younger than your actual age or may have considerable experience or maturity, but we do not make exceptions under any circumstance. |
Each child must prepare a one minute monologue and 16 bars of a song. |
Choose an audition song that you are comfortable with and that shows off your personality and voice at its best. Most directors prefer that you not sing a song from the show you are auditioning for, but are happy to hear you sing a song that is similar in tone or style to the show. At LYT, any song will do, and many first-time auditionees choose something like "Happy Birthday" or "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." |
Bring either a CD with instrumental music for the song you wish to sing, or you may sing a cappella. |
Callbacks are an opportunity for the production staff to see you one more time before making final casting decisions.
The cast list is usually posted online within a week or two after the audition. |
Yes, but you will not be allowed to audition for the next show and your tuition fee will not be refunded. We strongly discourage performers from quitting if they don’t get the role they like, because we believe that every role is important and the experience of being part of the production is more important than being the lead. Also, many times a role you didn’t really want can surprise you and be more fun than you ever dreamed. |
The tuition fee, or your cost to participate in the show, is $145.00. This can be broken down into monthly payments of $75.00. Your cost for costumes will vary depending upon what role(s) you are cast for and how many costumes you will need. Estimate $40.00 to $80.00 for your costume rental fee. A make-up starter kit containing base, lipstick, and eye liner will run approximately $30.00. Cast members do not receive complimentary tickets and individual ticket prices range from $5.00 to $7.00. Optional costs are T-Shirts, Personal Messages in the Program, Photographs, and the Cast Party. |
Like many nonprofit theater companies, we are not able to cover all of our production expenses with ticket sales. The additional money from tuition allows us to put on fully produced shows in a major theater venue and to provide our young actors the opportunity to work with outstanding theater professionals. |

Rehearsals take place 3 to 4 months prior to the performances. Typically, they take place 2 times a week and last 2 hours. Not all cast members will be scheduled to rehearse every time we meet. Generally, all cast members are at rehearsal at least once a week.
Rehearsals are scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday. We meet from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
A detailed rehearsal schedule will be available at the Parents’ Meeting for your show. The final
two weeks of rehearsal are mandatory. Some of these rehearsals will go later in the evening.
It is the final week of rehearsal. This important rehearsal period provides an opportunity for the cast to rehearse onstage and for the set, lighting, and sound designers to set the technical aspects of the show in time for performances. Rehearsals during tech week usually run from 4:00-6:30 or as late as 7:00.
When cast for a part, each performer makes a commitment to attend all rehearsals for which they are called. If you are ill or will be late for a scheduled rehearsal, please call 386-6567 or 266-7460 and leave a message. If you know before auditions that you will not be available certain day(s), please note it on your Conflict calendar, which you will receive during the Informational Meeting or as part of your Audition Packet. Conflicts will not be accepted during the last ten days of rehearsal or during the performances. If you have too many conflicts on your form or have poor attendance during rehearsals, the director may recommend
that you not audition or withdraw from the show. |

Depending on how involved you wish to be, your total volunteer hours will vary from 10 to more hours over the course of approximately 3-4 months.
